Your store's MCP server

Every store on Nobi already has its own MCP server. The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is how AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT call outside tools. Your server gives those assistants your catalog and your own support content, under your own name.
There is nothing to install and nothing to switch on. Your server is already running, and it answers for your store only.
Shop Nobi's MCP server is a different thing. It searches many stores at once and is covered in Connect Shop Nobi to AI agents.

Key Benefits

  • No setup: Your server already runs. You install nothing, host nothing and hold no API key.
  • Your name, not ours: The server reports your store's name, description and instructions, built from your Nobi settings. In Claude and ChatGPT a shopper sees your store.
  • Your store only: It answers from your catalog and your own documents. It never answers from another store's products.
  • Read only: It reads and answers. It never places an order, takes a payment or sees your orders. Shoppers buy on your own site.
  • Reported like your other channels: Searches through your server, and the product links shoppers open, are recorded against your store and split by the assistant that made them. An "AI Assistant And Bot Searches" card appears on your reporting page once your first traffic through an assistant arrives. It is hidden in the view that leaves automated traffic out, so switch to All traffic to see it.

Your server's address

Your server answers at both of these, with your Nobi merchant ID in the path:
https://mcp.nobi.ai/mcp/{merchantId}/rpc
https://api.nobi.ai/mcp/{merchantId}/rpc
Your merchant ID is the accountId in your Nobi install snippet, which your dashboard shows on its install page. Email [email protected] if you are not sure which one it is.
The server takes JSON-RPC over MCP's streamable HTTP transport. It needs no sign-in, no API key and no OAuth. The assistant app a shopper uses may still ask them to approve its tools.
A description of your own server, including the exact tools it offers today, is published at https://api.nobi.ai/.well-known/mcp/{merchantId}.json.

What your server offers

Your server offers the tools your store is set up for, so the list is not the same for every store.
  • ask_question answers questions about your store, its products, services, policies and support, from your own content. Every store has it.
  • search_products searches your own catalog and returns product names, prices, availability and links to your site. It appears once your catalog holds products.
  • search_knowledge_base searches your own indexed support and company documents. It appears once you have indexed documents.
  • capture_lead records a shopper's contact details for you to follow up. It appears when your lead capture is set to collect details in the assistant.
  • refer_to_lead_form gives the shopper your own contact form instead. It appears when your lead capture points at a form of your own.
The server's own list is the one to trust. An MCP client reads it with tools/list, and the description above carries the same list.
Prices and availability in a result can lag behind your store, so the server tells assistants that shoppers buy on your own site.

How a shopper reaches your store in Claude and ChatGPT

A shopper reaches your server by adding it as a connector in their assistant app. These steps are the ones both apps asked for in October 2026, and both apps change their menus from time to time.
Claude
On a Claude Pro or Max account:
  1. Open Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Press "+ Add", then "Add custom connector".
  3. Name it your store's name, the same title your server reports.
  4. Server URL: https://mcp.nobi.ai/mcp/{merchantId}/rpc?source=claude_connector
  5. Sign-in mode: "No sign in". Leave request headers empty.
  6. Press "Add". In a chat, open the "+" menu, then Connectors, and turn your store on.
On a Claude Team or Enterprise account an Owner adds it under Organization settings, then Connectors, and each person then connects to it themselves. Anthropic does not review custom connectors.
ChatGPT
This needs a ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace on the web. A ChatGPT Pro account cannot add a custom MCP server.
  1. Open Plugins and press "+".
  2. Choose to add a custom MCP server.
  3. Name it your store's name, and use your server's description as the description.
  4. MCP server URL: https://mcp.nobi.ai/mcp/{merchantId}/rpc?source=chatgpt_connector
  5. Authentication: no authentication.
  6. Accept the warning, create it as a plugin, and review the tools it lists.
  7. Install the plugin. In a chat, type @ and pick your store.
Why the source tag matters
Both URLs above carry a source tag. Nobi records it with every request, so your dashboard reports Claude and ChatGPT traffic separately. Leave the tag off and the connector still works, but its traffic lands under plain MCP.

Getting listed in the Claude and ChatGPT directories

A connector works as soon as someone adds it by hand. A directory listing is the separate step that lets people find your store in the Claude connectors directory or the ChatGPT apps directory. There are two ways to get one.
You submit it yourself
Nobi generates your listing entry for you, in the shape the MCP registry takes, at https://api.nobi.ai/.well-known/mcp-registry/{merchantId}.json. Submitting it proves you own your domain through a DNS record only you can add, so this part is yours to complete.
Nobi manages it for you
Nobi will prepare your directory listings, submit them and look after them, as a premium service. Ask your Nobi contact, or email [email protected].
Both directories review submissions by hand, so neither route has a guaranteed outcome or a fixed timeline.

What it costs

Your server bills against the same plan as the assistant on your website.
  • ask_question and search_products each count as one message, exactly as they do in your website assistant.
  • A store with no plan has those two tools refused, as the website assistant does.
A directory listing managed by Nobi is a premium service.

Good To Know

  • Your server's name, description and instructions come from your store's record in Nobi. Change your store name, website or description and the connector reports the new one.
  • capture_lead writes a real lead, and anyone who has added your connector can submit one. That is the same exposure as the lead form on your website.
  • The address is on a Nobi hostname. A hostname of your own, such as mcp.yourstore.com, is not available yet. A shopper sees the Nobi address once, while adding the connector. Everything after that, in their connectors list and in every chat, shows your store.
  • Product links carry a nobi-conversation-id parameter, which is what ties a click back to the conversation that produced it.
  • Privacy policy: nobi.ai/privacy. Terms: nobi.ai/terms.
  • Questions or problems: contact us or email [email protected].
